Title: Team Lead – Capacity Building
Location: Remote – Global
Position Summary
The Syria Justice and Accountability Center has been documenting human rights violations and pursuing justice for Syrians since 2012. SJAC is increasingly asked to provide its expertise to partner organizations. SJAC utilizes its online training platform and targeted training sessions to support partner organizations documenting human rights violations around the globe.
SJAC is seeking an entrepreneurial and collaborative team member with a deep understanding of human rights in the Syrian context to (1) oversee and coordinate SJAC’s growing capacity building efforts, (2) manage SJAC’s relationships with partners receiving trainings, including conducting proactive outreach, and (3) create training materials and conduct trainings. Fluency in Arabic is essential.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate among SJAC’s various human rights trainers to select training topics and ensure regular, impactful trainings, both online and in person;
- Produce training materials for SJAC’s online training platform;
- Conduct trainings in-person and/or by video-conference for human rights groups and independent activists;
- Develop and execute a networking strategy to deliver and expand on SJAC’s capacity building objectives;
- Experience conducting training in human rights or related topics for practitioners.
- Fluency in written and spoken Arabic (preferably Syrian Arabic dialects); proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Respond to requests for trainings and proactively reach out to organizations that may benefit from SJAC’s support;
- Design, collect, and analyze M&E indicators for SJAC’s Capacity Building program;
- Participate in regular calls with SJAC management to share program progress and challenges.
Skills and Experience
- Degree in human rights, international affairs, law, or another relevant field.
- Knowledge of the Syrian conflict and associated human rights violations.
- Expertise in human rights documentation, transitional justice, and/or international humanitarian law. Concrete experience conducting human rights documentation or supporting justice processes preferred.
