About VictimConnect

VictimConnect is a 24/7 service that supports people who have been impacted by a violent crime in Queensland at some point in their lives. A violent crime can include assault, murder, manslaughter, property offences with violence including break and enter and robbery, domestic violence, sexual assault or sexual abuse. We provide information, advice, referrals (e.g. case management) and trauma informed specialist counselling to victim survivors, their family, and friends.

Role Overview

  • Permanent full-time (Monday – Friday)
  • Work from our Central Office in Brisbane, QLD
  • Support a team of multi-skilled specialist counsellors and practitioners!

The Team Leader guides, develops and supports a team of skilled specialist practitioners and counsellors by providing case recommendations; planning; workflow and task management, performance reviews, mentoring and coaching to deliver efficient and effective support to victims of violent crime across Queensland. Reporting to the Director of Client Services – Recovery & Healing, the Team Leader is expected to collaborate with all levels of management and with a broad array of external stakeholders, in delivery of high-quality specialist services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the team with responding to inbound calls, completing referral forms, and conducting initial needs, risk, and safety assessments, provide psychological first aid and emotional support, offering appropriate information and referrals.
  • Collaborate with the broader Leadership team to shape practice in accordance with service framework and continue to promote responsive service delivery.
  • Oversee staff development, performance planning, reviews, coaching and feedback and contribute to identifying training needs.
  • Manage and develop key stakeholder relationships within the victim support sector.
  • Support in the preparation of monthly and quarterly service delivery reporting.

Position Requirements

  • Proven clinical experience in at least one (1) of the following areas; Domestic, family and intimate partner violence, sexual violence and abuse, victims of crime, child protection and/or residential support, or Specialist trauma counselling or mental health.
  • Tertiary qualification(s) in the area of Social Work, Human Services or Psychology.
  • Extensive leadership experience overseeing a service delivery team.
  • Highly developed risk assessment and counselling skills, supporting services to victims of violent crime.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with government and non-government agencies and women, children, and men from a diverse range of social and cultural groups, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities including the use of interpreting services.
  • Understanding of state-based legislation including victim of crime and child protection legislation relevant to service delivery.
  • Understanding of the Qld criminal justice system including the Victims of Crime Act court process.
  • Demonstrated capacity to supervise, engage, retain and support staff in a way which values diversity, is culturally competent and prioritises psychological wellbeing – we LOVE vibrant and energetic vibes!
  • Ability to obtain National Police Check and Positive Notice Blue Card prior to commencing employment.
  • Valid driver’s license or ID.
  • Right to work in Australia.

  • Social Community Home Care Disability Award Level 6. Dependent on qualifications and relevant experience. Superannuation.
