About the role

The Team Leader will be pioneering a brand-new program at ACSO alongside the Program Manager, leading and supporting a small team of AOD clinicians, building and maintaining local networks to ensure continuity of care and support for clients. The Team Leader will assess and monitor risk, establish and deliver high-quality service, and supervise and support their team to develop their emotional intelligence and resilience, whilst developing and maintaining skills to support the client group.

Daily, the Team Leader will lead, supervise, coach and develop team members in the performance of their duties, including creating and fostering a positive and cohesive team culture. They will be responsible for coordinating and conducting all employee management lifecycle activities including; recruitment, professional supervision sessions, performance counselling, inducting and training new team members, rostering, conducting annual performance planning and review meetings with the team, and conducting performance management with employees in partnership with Program Manager and/or People Experience Partner.

The Team Leader will hold a small case load of complex clients and provide evidence based AOD Counselling that incorporates forensic elements where necessary, and utilise strong report writing, develop realistic treatment plans and quality clinical documentation.

What we’re looking for

  • 2+ years’ experience as a people leader, with success in leading others in the delivery of program services.
  • Eligibility to enter New South Wales (NSW) prisons.
  • Strong demonstrated experience in providing evidenced-based counselling (e.g., Motivational Enhancement Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, etc.) to clients tailored through assessment and formulation of client centred treatment planning.
  • A contemporary understanding and approach in working with individuals who have co-occurring mental health and alcohol and other drug issues (i.e., dual diagnosis) or other co-occurring complexities (e.g., ABI and other disabilities).
  • An ability to work with challenging clients and complex issues, preferably in the AOD and/or forensic fields.
  • Experience in conducting clinical supervision, secondary consultation, and (with the support of more senior team members and/or People and Culture) performance counselling sessions with team members.
  • Demonstrated communication strengths in the areas of; interpersonal sensitivity, communicating sensitive information effectively, conducting difficult conversations in an empathetic and authentic manner.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how to build and foster a high-performance team culture.
  • Committed to continuous learning and professional development.
  • An ability to adhere to policy and procedure such as privacy, confidentiality and workplace health and safety.
  • Relevant sector experience is highly desirable.
