Canteen, Camp Quality and Redkite (Alliance Partners) are working together to provide Cancer Hub – a digital hub to help families impacted by cancer more easily access the practical and emotional support they need, when they need it.

We are now seeking a Team Leader – Cancer Navigation to join our team where you will lead and support a national team of Cancer Navigators who navigate the service system for families by completing comprehensive assessments, identifying presenting issues, providing information, and linking in with necessary community supports and hospital-based supports.

This is a high-impact role for a qualified Team Leader – Cancer Navigation with a natural ability to connect and support.

About our role

  • Deliver Cancer Navigation: Provide high quality, evidence-based cancer navigation support to a proportionate caseload of young people and families impacted by cancer.
  • Organisational requirements: Support the delivery of Cancer Hub’s Strategic Plan, and overall organisational goals and KPIs.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Contribute to key stakeholder relationships, working collaboratively with all services under Cancer Hub, Alliance Partners and other stakeholders to ensure young people and families receive access to the supports that best meet their needs.
  • Leadership: Lead, build and develop a team of autonomous navigators to deliver high quality and evidence-based case management interventions, to ensure young people and families are supported through their cancer experience. In addition, provide leadership support to other teams within Cancer Hub and Canteen as required.
  • Program development: Lead the growth and development of the cancer navigation service; Actively participate in developing processes and procedures for the effective delivery of the Cancer Hub program in alignment with Canteen’s Strategic Plan and key deliverables as per the funding agreement.

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, occupational therapy or nursing.
  • 3-5 years demonstrated experience in delivering case management and/or clinical intervention within child, youth or health focused settings.
  • Experience supporting young people and families impacted by complex or life limiting illness and navigating the health system and other community-based supports.
  • Experience creating and maintaining relationships with sector partners such as hospitals, health and community services, education and not-for-profit professionals.
  • Demonstrated experience in management / leadership within health or community sectors.
  • Experience managing a remote team preferred but not essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of strategic relationships that support outcomes for families.
  • Strong organisational/project planning and time management skills.
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments and developing safety plans including knowledge of child protection legislation and mandatory reporting.
  • Demonstrated skills in decision making, problem solving, negotiation and crisis management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills across a variety of mediums.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy and an ability to navigate numerous IT systems.
  • Ability to liaise with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to travel interstate if, and when required.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call roster covering the hours listed below (roughly one week per month). Monday-Thursday: 10am-8pm Saturday: 10am-5pm (all Sydney time, AEST or AEDST).
  • Outstanding communication skills and a natural ability to connect.
  • A compassionate values-based approach.

*Due to the nature of Canteen’s work, you will be required to (very) occasionally work weekends and evenings. Advance notice will be given when this is the case, and Canteen does have a Time off in Lieu policy for taking leave as agreed with the supervising manager.
