The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is an international financial institution and specialized United Nations Agency whose mission is to invest in poor rural people to overcome poverty. The Strategy and Knowledge Department (SKD) guides IFAD’s strategies and knowledge dissemination. It includes divisions like Environment, Climate, Gender, and Social Inclusion (ECG), which focuses on integrating key themes into IFAD’s projects, including nutrition and social inclusion.
IFAD prioritizes nutrition to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG2). They aim to improve the nutrition of 5 million people by 2027, emphasizing empowerment, safe food production, and healthy diets. Their Nutrition Action Plan 2019-2025 guides these efforts, highlighting the importance of capacity-building and knowledge generation for future programs. Effective nutrition support requires dedicated experts at headquarters and regional divisions.
The Junior Professional Officer (JPO) will contribute towards achieving IFAD’s ambitious results in nutrition in an integrated approach with gender, youth, indigenous peoples and climate change, as well as other relevant sectors/issues and to support regional country operations in East and Southern Africa Division (ESA). As Technical Analyst you will serve as a technical expert and analyst in nutrition and its integration with social inclusion. You will work under the supervision of the Senior Technical Specialist (Nutrition), with mentoring from the Lead Technical Specialist (Nutrition) based in the East and Southern Africa Regional Office in Nairobi, Kenya. You will support the country and regional programmes with the following duties:
