This position will be hired for the ‘ icddr,b Centre for Climate-Change and Health (iCCH)’ which has been established in the icddr,b  Chakaria campus under the auspices of the Wellcome Trust funded project, ‘Measuring the Global Impact of Climate Change on Human Health from a Local Sentinel Site’. A fully equipped microbiology lab has been established under the iCCH which will process the biological (stool) and environmental samples collected from the local community covered under the Chakaria HDSS (Health and Demographic Surveillance System). icddr,b in collaboration with the Wellcome Sanger Institute will focus on understanding the link between climate stressors like salinity and the changes in gut microbiome and their impact on the overall health of the community. This platform will create scope for exciting future research collaboration. The multidisciplinary exploration at iCCH will entail extensive capacity building engagements for its staff.

The Technical Assistant will report to the Research Officer and will be responsible for the implementation of research activities with the objective of collecting relevant research information for creating knowledge within the guidelines of the research protocol and organizational values and guidelines. S/he will be involved in:

• Clean and wash all lab wares following the SOP manual used in the lab; Dry all lab wares in the specific ovens;
• Maintain & regulate temperature in order to ensure cleaning and washing of lab supplies and equipment;
• Place all lab wares in specific places for easy retrieval; clean and dry ovens refrigerators and shelves;
• Keep lab working places and adjacent areas clean to ensure the quality of laboratory activities;
• Take part in the activity for transportation of lab supplies, reagents and other items from place to place as required;
• Prepare different types of acid and solutions used in the washing of laboratory wares using the specific detergent required for washing particular lab wares;
• Receive different types of samples in labs on time;
• Process primary specimens of laboratory tests in order to ensure uninterrupted operation of laboratory activities;
• Helps the office manager to ensure smooth operation of laboratory activities.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

• S.S.C pass or equivalent;
• 1-2 years’ experience in the relevant laboratory work.
• Candidates must be permanent residents of Chakaria Upazilla under Cox’s Bazar District with a valid Upazilla/Union Parishad Chairman’s Certificate.
