In collaboration with the Technical Specialists and technical manager, the Technical Associate establishes technical standards and guidelines for key commodities purchased by UNICEF.
Key responsibilities are:
  • Drafts and prepares product specifications on basis of existing documentation, directives, and customer requirements.  Translates specifications with expert help if necessary. Communicates with country offices and suppliers to obtain all necessary clarifications.
  • Maintains technical aspects of the qualified supplier profiles, prepares lists of potential pre-qualified suppliers for all tendering and solicitation processes.
  • Administers market research. Establishes and maintains database for product sources.  Contacts and follows up new sources directly or through trade agencies or professional and technical organisations.  Extracts, indexes or records information from catalogues, price lists, etc. and analyses against current purchasing data.
  • Assists country programmes or any special project in the preparation of supply forecasts, analyses, establishing product specifications, quantities, budgets, and correct planning.
  • Assist in monitoring product performance, technical suitability appropriateness and durability on basis of information collected from country offices.  Investigates deviations in partnership with Quality Assurance Centre and Country Support Unit.
  • Assists in research and cataloguing of new products, keeps abreast of programme requirements and prepares technical bulletins for publication with the Strategy, Change & Communications Centre.
  • Facilitates communication with UNICEF Programmes, Supply Division Centres, UN agencies and NGO partners on technical matters.
  • In coordination with the Material Owners, ensures that the Material Master remains updated at all times for all products.
  • Responsible for drafting and maintenance of Centre Procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
 To qualify as a Champion for every Child you will have:
Required:
  • Completion of Secondary education.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of administrative experience in a commercial, industrial, or public-sector organisation with at least 2 years in a related technical capacity such as pharmacy assistant.
  • Knowledge of basic procurement practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office package in particular Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Fluency in English.
Desirable:
  • University level courses in pharmacy or related fields
  • Very good knowledge of pharmaceutical products.
  • Knowledge of SAP
  • Knowledge of another UN Language (French or Spanish).
