Mission of the WHO Country Office for India
The mission of WHO India is to improve quality of life people in India by supporting the government to ensure better health and wellbeing of the population through strengthening the prevention and control of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs), improving health systems for achieving UHC targets, providing assistance for the promotion of health and the prevention of premature death and disability by addressing key health-related social, environmental, and behavioural risk factors including tobacco use
Duties:
  • The purpose of this position is to provide technical support to MOHFW for Research, Surveillance, and monitoring of tobacco control including but not limited to Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) and Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) and related tasks under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP).
  • WHO India has been providing technical support to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for implementation of the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) and WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. The incumbent is being placed in the MOHFW/ Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to support the NTCP Division.
  • The incumbent will work under the overall guidance of Team Leader (NCD & Comorbidities) and in close consultation with the National Professional Officer (TFI) at WHO India. S/he will have the following responsibilities in her/his assigned area of work:
  • Coordinate surveillance meetings with committee and other stakeholders;
  • Support both substantively and structurally, in varying stages of the surveillance (data collection, data management, evaluation, analysis and in monitoring);
  • Preparation and assistance in the documentation of GATS/GYTS report;
  • Facilitate in finalization of the GATS/GYTS report;
  • Conduct mid-term review and timely reporting to stakeholders;
  • Undertake regular visits to the States and Districts to monitor the program; and
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor(s).
Qualifications Required:
Education:
Essential:
  • A university degree in public health, epidemiology, social science or any significant health-related degree from a recognized university
Experience:
Essential:
  • At least one year of experience in tobacco control issues and/ or experience in monitoring & evaluation of large-scale programmes would be given preference.
Functional Skills and Knowledge:
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and working knowledge of local language will be an asset. Proficiency in computer applications and ability to draft reports
