Organizational Setting

The FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (RLC) manages a portfolio of projects financed by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) amounting to USD 314,8 million. These projects, which are executed by different FAO Representations throughout the region, require annual reports to the GCF in English. In addition, Member countries ask FAO for support in the design of GCF proposals in the official language of the country (Spanish)..

Ongoing support from consultants who are available at different times of the year is required to perform technical editing (in Spanish and English) of documents  that the Regional Office sends to the GCF.

Reporting Lines

The FAO Representation that presents the document in coordination with the Climate and Environmental Finance Unit in RLC.

Technical Focus 

Editing tasks in Spanish and English include annual performance reports of projects under execution (whose logical framework in English is already approved), concept notes, proposals of the “readiness” window, funding proposals. Editing tasks include specialized terminology related to climate finance, climate change adaptation, climate change mitigation, environment, sustainable development, and agriculture as defined by FAO (crops, livestock, forestry, fisheries, and aquaculture).

Tasks and responsibilities

•    review text and identify errors related to the use of technical terms or adherence to the specific technical topic, in line with the highest academic standards on the topic;
•    substantively edit text to address the accuracy, unity, integrity and completeness of the technical information and to ensure that it is intelligible to the intended audience;
•    regularly consult the FAO Terminology portal http://www.fao.org/faoterm to ensure compliance with FAO standards on the specific technical matter;
•    verify that the structure of the assigned document follows the guidelines and templates provided by the GCF
•    improve the structure, argument and presentation of facts avoiding redundancies;
•    enhance the focus and strength of the key messages;
•    flag any problems that require decisions relating to the substance of the work and ensuring its technical accuracy; and
•    complete two rounds of corrections of the assigned document following divisional checks;
•    track comments and suggestions for review and approval by the project team

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

•    University degree or relevant technical training/qualification in climate change and agriculture (crops, livestock, forestry, fisheries, and aquaculture.)
•    5 years of relevant experience in editing and reviewing technical documents (in Spanish and English) related to climate finance, climate change mitigation and adaptation projects, environment, sustainable development, agriculture as defined by FAO (crops, livestock, forestry, fisheries, and aquaculture).
•    Working knowledge of English and Spanish

•    Ability to work efficiently and meet tight deadlines.
•    Excellent communication and collaboration skills to interact with project teams.
