OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

Supports Member States in addressing the double burden of malnutrition and diet related NCDs through a multisectoral approach that includes policies and strategic actions to ensure nutrition services universally accessible, promoting sustainable healthy diets, and creating healthy food environments with aims to achieve optimal nutrition status.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

1. Develop and propose innovative technical health policies and strategies for implementation through collaboration with Regional and Country Offices and provides advice in developing further the Nutrition for strengthening and improving technical capacity of target clienteles.2. Manage the nutrition subunit in delivering its objectives through efficient managing a small team of technical staff, to optimize the programme’s deliverables in line with the mandate of the Organization.3. Develop and monitors work plans and budgets for the team’s activities and follow up on the implementation of planned activities.4. Analyze data and information on best practices in implementing sustainable public health programmes and disseminates information.5. Manage research activities and the implementation of the subunit’s activities and dissemination of information for capacity building in the respective area of work.6. Conduct monitoring and evaluation of malnutrition in the region and conducts timely reporting for decision makers.7. Provide technical guidance and works closely with counterparts in technical departments across the Organization and liaises with counterparts in partner UN Agencies, Donors and other stakeholders to harmonize recommendations on policies and strategies related to Nutrition and the facilitation of successful implementation of national and/or global health programmes.8. Upon delegation represent WHO at various meetings.Specific duties:• Guided by global and regional frameworks, secure and evaluate information in support of the development of regional and national plans of action and monitors subsequent progress supporting cross-sectoral work. • Supervise the overall project coordination and deployment of resources and monitor and analyze indicators and surveillance data. • Conduct analytical studies, such as research, and introduce new ideas and evidence in the respective field of nutrition, that are aligned to regional and country strategies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: Master’s degree in nutrition, public health nutrition or other nutrition-related fields
Desirable: A PhD in one of the above-mentioned fields.

Experience

Essential: A minimum of 7 years of professional experience, with proven international exposure, in the management of nutrition programmes, including experience in the development of nutrition and related health policies and strategies. Demonstrated experience managing human and financial resources.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 77,326 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 3325 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
