About MAG
MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.
About the role
The Technical Lead will implement all aspects of Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) and related tasks in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures in Jordan. This will include coordinating and providing technical oversight on WAM type projects from the initial project design, rehabilitation and/or construction of new facilities through to development of a sustainable local capacity. You will be responsible for ensuring overall safe execution of all MAG technical activities within the country.
About you
You must have experience of working in weapon and ammunition management (WAM/SALW/PSSM) type operations in countries that are contaminated by remnants of conflict. You must have relevant professional training, including EOD 3 IMAS qualification within field experience of operations and conducting bulk demolitions. You will be experienced in leading, motivating and managing a diverse team of people, and in mentoring and coaching others. You will also have experience of conducting formal or informal training and the transfer of appropriate skills to others. The ability to work autonomously and develop, review and comply with security and technical Standard Operating Procedures is essential. In addition, you will possess excellent communication, interpersonal, diplomacy and organisation skills, with the ability to plan and coordinate activities and projects. Previous experience having worked in the Middle East and Arabic language skills will be highly desirable.
About the Jordan programme
Building on MAG’s considerable experience of delivering PSSM interventions globally and elsewhere in the Middle East region, MAG is launching a new project to Support the Jordanian Armed Forces’ (JAF) Sustainable Physical Security and Stockpile Management, to enhance regional security by reducing at-risk, illicitly proliferated, or indiscriminately used conventional weapons. MAG will work in partnership with the JAF to strengthen their munitions management capacity, enabling implementation of the JAF’s Munitions Infrastructure Master Plan.
