Towards this mission, the WHO Universal Health Coverage Life Course division (UHL) supports countries to advance the primary health care (PHC) approach and essential health system capacities for universal health coverage (UHC) with improved health service coverage and financial protection to address inequity and gender inequalities. WHO works with 194 Member States across 6 regions and has offices in 150+ locations.

The WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre (TMC) is a WHO headquarters department in UHL that is outposted to Jamnagar, Gujarat in India. The TMC operates within WHO’s General Programme of Work and the WHO Traditional Medicine Global Strategy and works in close collaboration with the WHO Traditional, Complementary, and Integrative (TCI) Unit, Headquarters technical departments, Regional and Country Offices, other UN agencies, and other partners to support traditional medicine related policies, practice and public use.

Duties:

  • Review scientific literature and other information sources, including rapid reviews for senior management and stakeholder briefs, conduct appraisal of sources and analysis of available information, and apply knowledge management skills including with reference management databases.
  • Develop information briefs and reports and share knowledge in different formats with various teams, partners and stakeholders, working closely with WHO Department of Communications colleagues.
  • Support the organization of the biennial WHO Traditional Medicine Global Summit, and other TMC meetings, closely collaborating with WHO headquarters, regional and country offices and partners and stakeholders, including policymakers, TM professionals and practitioners, the public, Indigenous Peoples, academics, private sector, civil society, community representatives, and others.
  • Support the development of the Summit agenda, creative concepts, messaging, and exhibition spaces and materials, collaborating with TMC teams, event management companies and others.
  • Collate development of Global Summit session notes, reports and stakeholder feedback for the outcome document, coordinating with technical and writing and editing colleagues as needed.
  • Conduct specific, cross-cutting TMC technical projects as agreed with senior management.
  • Provide project management support to draft and evaluate requests for proposals, keep track of project and event milestones, keep colleagues and senior management updated, including if course corrections are needed, and other project management tasks.
  • Promote partner engagement and support teams with collaborative tools, skills and platforms, working across multidisciplinary and multicultural teams and contexts.
  • Apply broad, practical knowledge of development and implementation of public health policies & strategies, and their implementation in regions and countries.
  • Contribute to resource mobilization initiatives, in alignment with Organizational policies and strategies.
  • Engage and communicate effectively & diplomatically with various partners (internal & external) and stakeholders.
  • Work through changing conditions and adapt as needed to achieve the Organization’s mission.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

Essential:

  • First level University Degree (Bachelor’s degree) in public health, health policy, law, international relation, or related field.

Experience:

Essential:

  • At least five (5) years of experience in public health, law, project management, information/ knowledge management or other field related to the functions of this post.
  • Some demonstrated experience in health-related project management at international level.

Skills:

  • Strong skills in literature reviews, writing of information briefs and reports, analysis of available sources of information, knowledge management skills, and in sharing knowledge with various teams and stakeholders.
  • Good collaborative and teamwork skills, working across multidisciplinary and multicultural contexts.
  • Broad, practical knowledge of development and implementation of health policies & strategies, and their implementation in regions and countries.
  • Ability to work independently to deliver quality and timely work products.
  • Capacities to contribute to resource mobilization initiatives.
  • Ability to engage and communicate effectively & diplomatically with various partners (internal & external) and stakeholders.
  • Project management skills to keep track of programme area milestones, and keep colleagues and senior management updated, including if course corrections are needed.
  • Ability to work through changing conditions and to adapt as needed to achieve organizational mission.

Language Skills:
