Under the guidance of the Director, Data, Strategy and Innovation (DSI) and direct supervision of the Coordinator, Health Information and Intelligence (HII) the incumbent will work closely with relevant teams in WHO, government counterparts and other partner organizations. Her/his main role is to provide sound technical support in monitoring progress of GPW, strengthening country key indicator monitoring systems, data generation and evidence creation in collaboration with partners in addressing data gaps for priority health topics. The incumbent would also be responsible for the analyses of health trends and determinants in informing delivery for impact strategies.
The incumbent will work closely with other teams within DSI (i.e. strategic dialogue, UHC, data, innovation, research) as well as the Divisions of Programmes of Disease Control (DDC), Health Systems (DHS) and Healthy Environments and Populations (DHP) in the Regional Office to ensure the coordinated, cross-cutting support to Member States.

Summary of Assigned Duties:
Under the guidance of the Director – Data, Strategy and Innovation and direct supervision of Coordinator for Health Information and Intelligence (HII), the incumbent will assume the following core responsibilities and achieve the stated tasks:
- Technical co-ordination and delivery of assigned activities, projects and support requests from Member States in strengthening HII’s efforts to improve the measurement of health outcomes and their determinants with regards to the monitoring of the GPW impact framework, UHC and SDGs.
- Develop acceleration scenario outputs for Delivery for Impact (DFI) specific to different scenarios.
- Maintain, update, and carry out routine but complex computational processes and statistical modeling that are central to generating estimates of key indicators.
- Execute queries on databases and resolve intricate questions in order to respond to the needs of senior staff members and external stakeholders.
- Prepare statistical and analytical reports of health and health-related outcomes and their determinants particularly on GPW, SDG and UHC monitoring to provide the evidence to inform delivery for impact strategies.
- Analyze data sets for inter-country comparisons of health and health-related outcomes across different sub-populations with an aim towards identifying health inequities.
- Support Member States in statistical and data management and develop capacity for statistical and data analysis.
- Liaise closely with IT experts in ensuring the data platforms of the Regional Office are updated with reliable and up-to-date statistical data and that the platforms are continuously updated to ensure they are well utilized.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Functional Skills and Knowledge:
- Proven skills in statistical and data analytical techniques, including multivariate regression, using a range of data sources. Excellent knowledge and experience of R and other statistical applications such as STATA and SAS. Ability to work in a flexible manner under pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to work in a collaborative manner. Clear understanding of data science and statistical methodologies. Clear understanding of research methods and epidemiological / demography / statistical principles.

- A first university degree in the area of epidemiology, demography, statistics, data science or closely related field.

- At least five years relevant experience in the analysis of data on population health. Experience in writing technical reports and clear understanding of epidemiological /demography/statistical principles.
Language:
- Expert level in written and spoken English is essential. Working knowledge of a UN language is an advantage.
