JOB DESCRIPTION

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

 

To assist countries in revitalizing primary health care and community-based care including referral support in relation to NCDs. To support Member States in the development, strengthening and implementation of policies and strategies for management of chronic NCDs. To provide technical support for implementation and operational research with the collaboration of the concerned technical units and department to generate evidence for effective and efficient interventions in the management of chronic NCDs.

 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

 

Under the overall supervision of Coordinator, Non-communicable Diseases and Determinants (NDD) and also under the guidance and support of Director, Healthier Populations and Noncommunicable Diseases (HPN), the incumbent will carry out the following duties:

 

1.To work with Member States, relevant units and partners in strengthening the management of NCDs focusing on primary health care level using evidence-based technical packages such as the WHO PEN, HEARTS and other technical package;

 

2. To work with Member States and partners in strengthening prevention and management of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases and other major NCDs in the Region;

 

3.To work with Member States and partners in strengthening integration of continuation of NCD services across the health system, and NCDs into emergency preparedness, response, and recovery plans.

 

4. To provide technical contribution in preparing the Regional Status Report/s, governing bodies and other documentation on Noncommunicable Diseases, including coordinating with Member States in obtaining country-specific inputs in finalizing the Reports;

 

5. To liaise with concerned technical units/departments/WCOs and provide technical contribution in documenting and sharing the regional best practices in NCD management;

 

6. To promote implementation research to provide evidence for the development of effective, efficient and equitable interventions for management and delivery of NCD services;

 

7. To assist the HPN in implementing the GPW 14 workplan including organizing regional workshops and preparing meeting reports; and8. To perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education

 

Essential: Degree in Medicine with a postgraduate degree in Public Health/preventive and social medicine from a recognized university.
Desirable: A doctoral degree in public health/preventive and social medicine.

 

Experience

 

Essential: At least 7 seven years of relevant experience, some of which should have been obtained in an international context in working in the field of public health in low-and middle-income country settings as well as at managerial level in the prevention and control of NCDs.
Desirable: Experience in planning of management of NCD services, public health management, sound knowledge in health research, and teaching/training of health personnel / providers

REMUNERATION

 

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 77,326 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 2507 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
