Job Description

AECOM’s West Region Strategic Communications Group is looking for a Technical Writer to assist in the creation of public reports for major transportation studies and projects in the planning, design and construction phases.

The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with Project Managers on projects requiring technical reports, white papers, internet communications materials, strategic initiatives, etc.

  • Help strategize on best practices for communicating technical information.

  • Guide and prepare documents and materials for use in communications.

  • Gather, analyze, and compose complex technical information.

  • Conduct research and ensure the use of proper technical terminology.

  • Translate technical information into clear, readable documents to be used by technical and non-technical personnel.

  • Draft content for newsletters, fact sheets, exhibit content, and other materials as needed.

  • Prepare summary documentation of stakeholder meetings and public events.

  • Organize material and write descriptive copy according to established standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.

  • Select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.

  • Coordinate with other AECOM staff to prepare graphic displays and layouts for reports.

  • Provide technical writing support and decipher directions provided on scripted storyboards, specifications, etc.

  • Review documents for technical accuracy in accordance with applicable regulations.

  • Exercise sound judgment when communicating with internal and/or external clients or customers.

  • Provide acute attention to detail in the development and tracking of project team communications.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or a related field + 2 years of Technical Writing experience or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four (4) years or more of technical writing experience.

  • Experience working in or supporting the transportation engineering industry on communications for large infrastructure projects.

  • Ability to understand technical project information, develop a technical report writing strategy related to that information, and oversee the technical report writing tasks within that strategy to execution.

  • Familiarity with the Adobe suite of tools and ability to assist in the preparation of graphics and layouts when needed.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively work with various departments and levels within company.

  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Relocation and/or per diem benefits are not offered.

  • Offered rate of compensation (Texas locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $56,000 – $96,000.
