District Technician
This position is to provide technical assistance for the Williams County Soil Conservation District. Implementation of all district programs, including tree planting, fabric installation, and chemical application program.
Position Requirements/Duties:
- Promote conservation practices through office and field contact with producer
- Keep daily contact with the office and notify the office of any change in schedules
- Assesses the need for conservation work within the District and recommends actions and programs
- Maintains personal contacts with producers
- Follow and be knowledgeable for all established policies of conservation program guidelines, specs, and procedures for implementing programs
- Keeps abreast of all federal, state, and local laws that affect the conservation work within the district
- Keep the District Board informed of actions taken, trends in conservation work, and issues in which the district may have an interest
- Assume responsibility and exercise own initiative in furthering education and district programs
- Prepares and presents/assists with conservation programs for schools, groups, field tours, and news articles
- Maintains a cooperative relationship with natural resource agencies operating within the District
- Assist NRCS personnel
- Advise NRCS personnel of landowners needing technical assistance
- Coordinate requests for assistance with NRCS and other appropriate resource agencies
- Record farmer contacts and significant follow-up in producer file assistance notes
- Enter onsite and office contact and plan development into CART
- Cooperate with NRCS personnel in carrying out conservation programs
- Assist with gathering data needed for conservation plans
- Apply conservation practices according to NRCS specifications when applicable
- Provide assistance to producers applying practices
- Seek follow-up on practices installed to evaluate their effectiveness
- Participate in developing districts annual and long-range plan of operations
- Seek follow-up on practices installed to evaluate their effectiveness and record in assistance notes
- Operate district and NRCS equipment safely for authorized purposes only
- Become familiar with NRCS field office technical guide for conservation practice specifications
- Be familiar with the published soil survey book and its uses in planning conservation practices
- Assists with report writing and conservation plan development
- Supervise the tree planting crew to make sure trees are planted according to plan
- Assist with conservation practice design, layout, installation, and associated paperwork with district services and rental program
- Assist with coordinating the district equipment and rental program
All:
- Initiates on the job and formal training opportunities related to job duties
- Attend training sessions when approved by the District Board
- Publicize conservation efforts in cooperation with NRCS district conservationist and other district staff through news articles
- Displays courteous and tactful behavior towards internal and external customers, supervisors, co-workers, and/or team members. Projects a positive and professional image.
- Performs all duties in a timely manner which consistently demonstrates fairness, cooperation, respect towards coworkers, office visitors, and all others in the performance of official business.
- Track and record daily activities in your yearly appointment book
- Perform other related duties as requested by the District Board and District Manager
Supervision: The district manager oversees this position.
Must be able to pass a federal background check
Office Hours: 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday
Position includes: 13 paid holidays, annual leave, sick leave, & life insurance

Starting wage $22.50/ hr
