Tees-Swale Community Engagement Trainee

Tees-Swale: Naturally Connected is an exciting programme of farming, nature and engagement work
in and around Teesdale and Swaledale. Funded largely by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the
programme is a joint venture between the North Pennines National Landscape team and the
Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority. It aims to work with farmers to enhance and connect
habitats, whilst engaging wider communities in these special landscapes.

Part of this project includes creating trainee opportunities. Each year there are 12-month
placements for two trainees who will be based in the North Pennines National Landscape – a
community engagement trainee, and a farming and nature trainee – as well as two based in the
Yorkshire Dales National Park.

You will work as part of the Tees-Swale: Naturally Connected programme to help deliver
inspiring education, community engagement and art projects and a variety of interpretation
projects in and around Teesdale whilst being paid a good wage, helping the environment, and
helping you develop your skills to boost your cv.

There’ll also be opportunities to explore potential roles in the natural environment, and to
connect with the other trainees working in on the Tees-Swale programme, and the National
Landscape and the National Park teams.

All Tees-Swale trainees will receive a range of development opportunities including an
induction programme, on-the-job experience and formal training courses. Each trainee has a
training budget which they can choose how best to spend to meet their needs and development
interests.

Salary: Grade 2 £22,737 to £23,114

Employment Location: Based in Stanhope, County Durham (with flexibility for a degree of home
working), and on site in and around Teesdale.

Interviews are scheduled to take place on Monday 4 March 2024.
