POSITION SUMMARY
The Simons Foundation is currently recruiting a Temporary Accounting Associate to join the accounting and reporting team. The Temporary Accounting Associate will be responsible for supporting the full accounting cycle and related reporting needs. This position is expected to start in February through October 2025.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain and analyze the general ledger accounting records, prepare and post routine general journal entries, and assist in performance of the monthly close process.
- Prepare month-end bank reconciliations as well as additional balance sheet account reconciliations, including, but not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable and other asset and liability accounts.
- Record and reconcile monthly grant commitments and payable balances.
- Retrieve import files from source systems and load the resulting journal entries into the Foundation’s accounting system, investigating and resolving any discrepancies or errors.
- Prepare financial statements, schedules and analyses to be incorporated into the monthly and annual reporting packages. Compile reports prepared by other team members into presentation materials.
- Maintain monthly accounting files and ensure documents are properly organized. Maintain report templates within the Foundation’s reporting system.
- Provide support during annual audits and tax preparation and assist the team in responding to requests from external accountants and auditors.
- Assist with the maintenance of the Foundation’s chart of accounts, setting up new account strings as necessary.
- Respond to periodic requests for accounting analyses and take on special projects as needed.
- Assist ongoing efforts to improve processes and make operations more efficient. Understand workflows between teams and coordinate follow-ups with other teams as appropriate.
- Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business preferred. Other degrees will be considered based on level of relevant experience.
Experience
- 2-4 years of public accounting or other relevant industry experience required
- Must have technical and computational accounting skills as well as an understanding of US GAAP and applicable industry standards.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics GP, FloQast or Concur is a plus.
- Familiarity with modern business intelligence tools such as Tableau or Power BI is a plus. Familiarity with IRS regulations with respect to exempt organizations, particularly private foundations, is a plus.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- The annualized compensation range for this position is $75,000– $87,000, depending on experience.
