With over 850 indigenous languages, and one of the most ethnically diverse populations, widespread poverty and gender inequality make it hard for many children to realize their rights.  In Papua New Guinea (PNG), UNICEF’s works effectively both ‘upstream’ (with governments) and ‘downstream’ (at the grassroots level) to carry out its mission through a programme of cooperation jointly developed with the government guides our work in the country.

 How can you make a difference?

The driver, at the G-2 level, provides reliable and safe driving services, demonstrating the highest standards of professionalism, discretion, integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol whilst ensuring compliance with local driving rules and regulations.

The driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Under the general guidance and supervision of the Admin Assistant, incumbent performs these duties:

Major duties and responsibilities 

  • Drives office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel.
  • Meets office staff and visitors at the airport and facilitates immigration and customs formalities.
  • Determines and schedules the repair and maintenance of the office vehicle fleet, ensuring their roadworthiness and up-to-date reporting of all vehicle logbook entries.
  • Collects and delivers mail and documents as required.
  • Reviews mileage, fuel consumption and invoices for fuel and repairs and maintenance ensuring their consistency and accuracy for payments processing; and,
  • Provide troubleshooting and guidance for vehicle cleaning, repairs and maintenance.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Minimum of grade 10 education; current and valid PNG driver’s license; knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair and maintenance.
  • Two years of work experience as a driver; safe driving record.
  • Commitment to continuous learning for professional development
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relations both within and outside the organization
  • Fluency in English and Tok Pisin with proven strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Initiative, passion and commitment to UNICEF’s mission and professional values.
