Temporary Field Technician

What You Will Do
Field technicians will provide technical assistance with the monitoring of anadromous river herring in the Hudson River in cooperation with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Hudson River Fisheries Unit located in New Paltz, NY.
You will be responsible for data collection of fisheries dependent and independent surveys.
Core job duties will include but are not limited to:
Successful applicants must be willing to work challenging hours (e.g., early mornings/late evenings) in inclement weather, able to lift 50 pounds, able to maneuver in and out of boats, and able to hand operate all gears (strenuous pulling and lifting).
Preference will be given to applicants with prior fisheries experience. Additional evaluation may be based on the applicant’s knowledge and experience with computer use, databases, and report preparation. Applicants must demonstrate that they are able to work independently and under challenging field conditions.
This is a temporary 6-month position. Contingent on funding, positions will start on March 21, 2024, and will extend through September 20, 2024

Compensation rate – $18.00- $20.00 per hour
