Our program is funded to serve 60 high school students attending Waltham High School.

The Upward Bound Summer program is a 6-week day program hosted on campus at Brandeis University that is meant to simulate the college experience for our students. Summer instructors help achieve this goal by planning and implementing dynamic, engaging, and empowering project-based courses. Each of the courses offered to students culminates in a project that demonstrates their learning presented on the last day of the summer program. Program dates for 2024 are: Monday June 24th to Friday August 2nd (4th of July break: 7/4-7/5).

  • Design a curriculum that matches and supports Upward Boundâ™s teaching and learning goals, yearly theme, and is responsive to Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks (guidance will be provided for instructors needing support with curriculum)
  • Incorporate culturally responsive pedagogy, student-centered learning, and multicultural perspectives
  • Focus on one overarching project that guides the content and skills you want students to learn and apply to be presented on the last day of the summer program
  • Implement an assessment/evaluation system for determining student success on assignments, culminating projects, class participation, and the course as a whole

Qualifications:

  • BA or BS in related content area
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks in related field/content area is a plus.
