East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Temporary Public Health Assistant! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of
Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides
convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes
from campus are the country’s largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap
Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational
fun.

As the Temporary Public Health Assistant, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable assisting with daily lab protocols while supporting the educational outreach program for Lyme disease and tick prevention. You will be an active
member of the Dr. Jane Huffman Wildlife Genetics Institute and will work closely with the Laboratory Director to aid customers with all inquires via walk-ins, phone calls, and emails. You will thrive in this role if
you like combining your communication skills and public health experience while coordinating various types of events for the department.
To be successful in this role, you must have strong organizational skills, communicate effectively, and work independently.
This is a grant-funded position. Contracts will be awarded based on grant funding with full-time employment until December 21, 2024. Your normal work hours will be 8:00 am to 4:30 pm but, you may have to flex your
schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Temporary Public Health Assistant.  When

What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)

  • Assist the Public Health Research Coordinator with preparing and scheduling public outreach events including fairs, educational workshops, conferences, and seminars.
  • Assist with identifying stakeholders across the Commonwealth to implement tick prevention seminars to be delivered to the community and medical providers.
  • Attend public outreach events to assist with presentation and organization.
  • Manage customer walk-ins, e-mails, and phone calls with tick testing forms, taking payments, and answering basic questions related to tickborne diseases and ticks.
  • Communicating with customers professionally and effectively on the ordering process, proper submission of samples, and result status.
  • Assist with ordering, tracking, and maintaining all inventory for office supplies and laboratory supplies.
  • Create and submit work orders and Source Point requisitions as it relates to DNA Lab.
  • Prepare and submit travel approvals, enterprise car rentals, hotel stays and conference arrangements for laboratory staff.
  • Coordinate the Laboratory Director and Public Health Research Coordinators calendars and meeting arrangements.
  • Prepare reports related to the DNA Lab.
  • Conduct other administrative support tasks as requested by the Laboratory Director.

What We’re Looking For (AKA Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Biology, or closely related field.
  • 1-year of administrative experience is preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
  • Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
