East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Temporary Public Health Research Coordinator (PHRC)! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of
Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides

The Dr. Jane Huffman Wildlife Genetics Institute at East
Stroudsburg University is seeking a Temporary Public Health Research
Coordinator (PHRC) to work in the Tick Research Laboratory of Pennsylvania. The
PHRC reports directly to the Director of the Dr. Jane Huffman Wildlife Genetics
Institute and will collaborate with the Director to design, implement, and
assess educational outreach initiatives focused on Lyme disease and tick
prevention across the Commonwealth through webinars, public health events,
wellness fairs and social media.
In addition, the Temporary Public Health Research Coordinator
will identify grant opportunities, define research projects pertaining to
epidemiological risk for tick bites and oversee research projects. The PHRC
will manage a team of student researchers who will assist with outreach events
and data collection. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to
support public education and scientific research while working in collaboration
with stakeholders and the community. To be successful in this position, the candidate must be self-motivated,
strong organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to work independently.


This is a grant-funded position. Contracts will be awarded based on grant funding with full-time employment until June 30, 2024. Your normal hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.  You may have to flex your
schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Temporary Public Health Research Coordinator (PHRC).  When

What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties) 

  •  Assist with implementing and assessing an array of tick and tickborne disease prevention and education programs to address various age groups.
  •  Assure all training programs are developed within current theory and evidence-based strategies.
  •  Assist the Director with coordinating and delivering public outreach events including fairs, educational workshops, conferences, and seminars.
  •  Assist with student hiring, training, and overseeing the Institute’s internship program in collaboration with ESU and other institutions of higher education.
  •  Collaborate with stakeholders across the Commonwealth to design, implement and assess a comprehensive training program for ticks and tickborne diseases targeting medical providers.
  •  Assist Director on social media calendar to produce a comprehensive social media campaign on ticks and tickborne diseases using various social media platforms in collaboration with ESU University Relations.
  •  Design and assist with weekly newsletters containing research and education on ticks and tickborne illnesses to be shared with communities with greater than 20k contacts.
  •  Collect, analyze, and report survey data from events and tick testing to establish baseline information; identify educational needs and interventions, establish learning outcomes, and evaluate changing trends in tick exposure. 
  •  Assist with preparation of manuscripts for scientific publication.
  •  Assist with the development and publishing of annual reports on tick testing data and provide required updates to the PA Department of Health.
  •  Create content for press releases and interact with media in collaboration with University Relations to promote tickborne prevention in the community and across the Commonwealth.
  •  Assist with publishing research for epidemiological studies pertaining to tick bite risk. Assist with IRB approvals for each research project through the ESU IRB committee.
  •  Ensure all research projects and methodologies are adequate and meet the standards of the institute for accuracy, precision, and other pertinent performance characteristics.
  •  Order, track and manage all inventory for office supplies and laboratory supplies.
  •  Create, submit, and manage work orders and source point requisitions as it relates to DNA Lab grants. 
  •  Assist customer walk-ins with tick testing forms, taking payments, and answering questions related to ticks and tickborne diseases.
  •  Communicate with customers the ordering process, result status, and comprehensive understanding of their tick testing results.
  •  Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of the Dr. Jane Huffman Wildlife Genetics Institute.

What We’re Looking For (AKA Qualifications)

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Public Health with a minimum of 1-years of experience related to public health education
  •  Minimum of 1-year experience in social media platform management
  •  Preferred 1-year experience pertaining to epidemiology, ticks and tick prevention
  •  Valid driver’s license
  • Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
  • Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
