Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Ecological and Evolutionary Modeling

Umeå University

tendersglobal.net

We are looking for a person who is interested in ecological research and is using computational methods to unravel system processes. Your background can be in ecology, evolution, computer science, mathematics, physics, or biology, as we are looking for a person who can bridge the Department of Ecology and Environmental Sciences (EMG) and the interdisciplinary research environment Integrated Science Lab (IceLab).

At Umeå University’s interdisciplinary research hub, IceLab (Integrated Science Lab, www.icelab.se), we foster multidisciplinary collaborations – focusing on innovative research that integrates theoretical, computational, and empirical work.

The appointment is part of a larger strategic initiative focused on the responses of living systems to environmental changes or external stress. The position will, therefore, primarily be placed at IceLab, where the employee is expected to contribute to cross-disciplinary collaborations. In this role you will also actively contribute to teaching graduate and undergraduate students in quantitatively oriented topics such as statistics, dynamical modeling, or network approaches at the Department of Ecology and Environmental Science.

We invite you to join IceLab and EMG and be part of a stimulating and supportive community of collaborative-minded scientists working on a panel of interdisciplinary problems. We are looking for a candidate who combines quantitative and computational literacy with domain-specific literacy.

We are now opening a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in ecosystem ecology with employment at the Department of Ecology and Environmental Science, with a focus on ecological, evolutionary, and/or biogeochemical processes studied using computational methods.

The position presents a unique opportunity to establish your research group and develop your independent line of research aligned with the Center’s theme. Join our supportive environment and work at the forefront of multidisciplinary science. We integrate mathematical modeling and data science with diverse disciplines, including ecology, plant physiology, and molecular biology. Your research will be instrumental in improving our understanding of the processes that govern the responses of living systems to environmental change and stress.

We offer a fully funded assistant professor position and a starting package with 75% research and 25% teaching. You will have time to develop your research. The employment is limited to six years but you will have the opportunity to apply for promotion to Associate professor during this time.

For further questions or more information about the program or the center, please contact Professor of Ecology Sebastian Diehl ([email protected]).
