The Department of Music at Bucknell University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Music Education to start in August, 2024. Teaching responsibilities for the position include providing oversight of the music education program and contributing to the musical education of the broader student population. Specifically, this entails (1) teaching music education courses, (2) overseeing the placement and supervision of student teachers (instrumental, choral, and general), (3) offering courses designed to develop the musicianship and musical understanding of the general student body, and (4) teaching courses that are central to the College of Arts and Sciences’ general education curriculum, such as its first-year seminars and/or team-taught Integrated Perspectives courses.

The teaching load is 5 courses per year. The appointee will be expected to pursue and maintain an active research agenda in music education, broadly defined. Tenure-line faculty members at Bucknell are expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and advising, ongoing creative/scholarly development, and committed service to the department, the university, and the candidate’s field. We welcome candidates who demonstrate excellence in reflective multicultural and inclusive teaching practices and who display a strong commitment to collaboration and interdisciplinarity.

QUALIFICATIONS:
An earned doctorate in music education or an equivalent field is required. A competitive candidate will have experience in higher education that demonstrates commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Familiarity with state music education program accreditation practices is preferred. The appointee will have a vision—and a plan for realizing that vision—of what a contemporary music education program, situated in a liberal arts education, can become.

APPLICATION:
To apply, please submit a cover letter addressing your relevant experience, teaching philosophy, and scholarly/creative interests; a C.V.; a one-page statement highlighting your approach to equity and inclusion; and contact information for three references. Candidates will be informed before references are contacted. All materials must be submitted online at careers.bucknell.edu.
