media. The Archipelagos’ Terrestrial Conservation Team carries out surveys throughout the year
with a focus on the island of Samos, monitoring the status and the habitat of key species.

Role Description

This is a role for a Terrestrial Research Assistant located in Samos Island, Greece. This is a
full-time, on-site role where the Research Assistant will assist the research team in
conducting field research, surveys, and laboratory work in the areas of environmental
conservation and ecological restoration.

Task Includes

  • Organising fieldwork with the different data collection platforms (e.g. camera traps,
    sediment collection).
  • Supervising BSc / MSc thesis projects.
  • Organizing spatial databases.
  • Supporting the other teams in processing spatial data.
  • Teaching local communities and/or universities about terrestrial conservation.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, or a related field
  • Experience conducting fieldwork related to environmental or ecological studies
  • Familiarity with techniques such as setting up camera traps and/or audio moths is a plus
  • Strong data management and analysis skills, experience working with statistical software
    (Preferable R)
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing techniques is a
    plus
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English
  • Commitment to environmental conservation and preservation of biodiversity
  • Ability to work in a team in dynamic field settings, often in adverse weather conditions
  • Experience managing and training students and/or volunteers
