Seeking a Teaching Focused Academic (TFA) Lecturer in Dietetics to contribute to the design and delivery of the undergraduate and post graduate nutrition and dietetics courses within the College of Sport, Health and Engineering.

About the role

The overall purpose of the TFA in Dietetics is to contribute to the design and delivery of the undergraduate and post graduate nutrition and dietetics courses within the College of Sport, Health and Engineering.  The TFA in Dietetics will design and teach discipline-based College undergraduate and postgraduate units, which may include face-to-face and/or online delivery, develop preparatory material as well as act as unit convenor.  The position of Lecturer will have supervisory responsibilities for sessional staffing as required.  A key responsibility of the position will be the development and delivery of Nutrition/Dietetics units with specialty in Medical Nutrition Therapy.

The major duties performed are:

  • Work with Nutrition and Dietetic staff and ,other relevant staff, and independently, to develop and deliver high quality, student centred, learning opportunities that engage students and supports course development and delivery in the nutrition and dietetic course area;
  • Participate in administrative duties and academic leadership such as Unit Convenor, attend program and college meetings and/or membership of a number of committees.
  • Undertake assessment activities that are authentic, providing timely and informative feedback to students.
  • Contribute to innovative curriculum design underpinned by concepts of pedagogy, andragogy, and research.
  • Maintain and develop nutrition and dietetic professional practice skills, knowledge, and expertise
  • Build relationships with internal and external partners to support the delivery of professional practice opportunities for student
  • Contribute to course reviews and external accreditation documentation
  • Consult with and provide advice, support and feedback to students
  • Independently and in collaboration with other relevant staff, conduct and disseminate scholarship and research in areas of expertise in accordance with the MORA (Measure of Research Activity) expectations for the level of appointment.
  • Understanding and complying with all policies and procedures.

  • Identify, assess, prioritise and control risks to the health and safety of staff, students, visitors and contractors to the environment arising from the operation of the area under their responsibility, and ensure that a safe system of work is developed and followed through appropriate training, supervision and monitoring in line with the annual OH&S Plan.
  • This is a part-time continuing position as a Lecturer in Dietetics (TFA), at the classification Teaching Focused Academic Level B, $101,598 – $120,647 (pro-rata), classification plus 17% superannuation working 22.05 hours per week. The position is primarily located at Footscray Park Campus.

    About the person

    You will have/be:

  • Knowledge or Training Equivalent to: Completion of a PhD or have equivalent professional standing in Dietetics with recent, relevant experience in Medical Nutrition Therapy in Australia.
  • An Accredited Practicing Dietitian (APD) or be eligible and willing to join the APD program.
  • Demonstrated ability/experience in delivery of individual case management (clinical nutrition) education, unit convening and curriculum design in nutrition and dietetic related topics at a tertiary level
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of a team, together with the capability to work alone/independently and meet objectives.
  • A demonstrated ability to establish effective relationships with staff, students, industry and relevant stakeholders.
  • Highly developed ability to organise and prioritise workload in a busy/demanding environment and complete competing work tasks within specified timeframes.
