WHO WE ARE

Emerge Women and Children’s Support Network (Emerge) is a specialist family violence service located in the City of Kingston. We run a 24/7 secure refuge, provide crisis accommodation, temporary housing and outreach services to women who remain in their homes. We also offer a variety of programs for women and therapeutic services to our clients, their children and the wider community.

ABOUT THE POSITION

This is an exciting new position to lead an early-intervention Therapeutic Pilot Program for primary-school-aged children who are at high risk of becoming teenagers who use violence. The Pilot will be rigorously evaluated in order to add to the evidence base and demonstrate that early intervention is critical to intervene before teenagers use violence.

The Pilot Program will utilise play and art therapy, be trauma informed and strengths based and consist of the following key therapeutic elements:

  • Therapeutic group for parents/caregivers
  • Therapeutic group for children
  • Dyadic therapy for parent/caregiver and child together

The Program Lead will work with a small team to lead program content development, recruitment of participants, delivery of therapeutic services and will liaise with a research consultant to ensure all aspects of evaluation are completed.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Therapist with experience working with children and their caregivers and able to offer individual, group and dyadic therapeutic support. We are looking for someone with leadership experience who is passionate, creative and collaborative. Experience in research and/or pilot program delivery would be highly regarded.

Essential Experience:

  • Experience working therapeutically with children, adults and dyads who have experienced family violence or other interpersonal trauma
  • Experience in developing and facilitating therapeutic groups
  • Strong understanding of trauma and attachment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Leadership skills and ability to provide support, guidance and debriefing
  • Training and experience in art therapy, play therapy or other creative approaches to therapy

Other Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Art Therapy, Social Work, Counselling or Psychology
  • Recent National Criminal History Check
  • Victorian Employee Working with Children Check
  • Current Victorian Driver’s License
