About the opportunity

The Therapeutic Residential Care Worker plays a pivotal role in building profound connections with children and young individuals, fostering nurturing and positive relationships. This role is dedicated to guiding and supporting each child through their journey, helping them navigate and overcome trauma-based challenges, paving the way for healing, emotional resilience, and the development of crucial life skills.

By actively engaging with these individuals, our Case Worker champions the journey towards healing, empowering these young minds to embrace a brighter future filled with positive attitudes, personal growth, and the acquisition of essential life skills.

Cultural Competence: A solid foundation in Aboriginal culture and values, enabling effective communication with Aboriginal children and families, and a demonstrated ability to contribute significantly to their emotional, physical, psychological, and cultural development.

Qualifications and Readiness for Growth: Minimum Cert 4 in Child, Youth and Family Intervention or a willingness to undertake this qualification as part of the employment agreement, showcasing a commitment to ongoing professional development.

Expertise in Complex Needs: Proven experience working with Aboriginal children with diverse and complex needs, showing an adeptness in responding therapeutically to pain-based behaviours resulting from trauma and disrupted attachment.

Therapeutic Approach: Proficiency in providing therapeutic parenting to children who have experienced trauma, fostering a healing environment.

Versatility and Responsibilities: Ability to handle various household tasks such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, and transportation for children. Additionally, adeptness in managing financial and administrative aspects like petty cash, pocket money, and comprehensive handover summary sheets.

Collaborative Team Player: Skilfulness in collaborative work with child protection workers, schools, police, as well as both Aboriginal and mainstream organisations to ensure comprehensive support for children and their families.

Health Compliance: Current COVID-19 vaccinations, including a minimum of two doses and a booster shot before commencement, ensure a safe work environment for all involved.
