Awarded a contract to deliver foster care services in the Perth area, the Foundation collaborates closely with Karla Kuliny Aboriginal Corporation to provide trauma-transformative therapeutic services, making significant strides in improving care outcomes for children and young people.

About the Role:

The Therapeutic Specialist position will have a focus on equipping and supporting carers in their provision of therapeutic care to children and young people in the program. The Therapeutic Specialist will provide case consultation and advice to other staff, particularly around trauma, attachment, and assessments. They will offer leadership and direct service in the clinical assessment and support for children and young people in the program.

The Therapeutic Specialist will develop and implement a range of appropriate therapeutic supports for children and young people in out of home care and training for professionals and carers in trauma-informed therapeutic approaches to out of home care.

The Foundation currently has a number of full-time opportunities available for Therapeutic Specialist’s based in East Perth on an ongoing basis.

Key Selection Criteria/  About You:

  • An appropriate tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, or a related discipline.
  • Eligibility for membership of the relevant professional association.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and direct service in the clinical assessment and treatment of children, young people, and families.
  • Previous experience in working in a similar role in out of home care.
  • Highly developed ability to provide secondary consultation and advice to clinicians and other professionals.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead and manage in an area of challenging and complex practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of trauma, attachment and neurobiology frameworks and theories.
  • Substantial experience in the area of child abuse and/or in working with traumatised children.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively and the capacity to negotiate and liaise with key stakeholders, including carers, Department of Communities, other agencies, and the community.
  • A sophisticated understanding of the complexity of the service system.
  • A current driver’s licence and Working with Children check or equivalent.
