ABOUT US
Lighthouse provides therapeutic care programs to children and young people impacted by long-term neglect, abuse and homelessness. Our focus is to create caring communities where young people can feel safe, form meaningful relationships and begin to heal.
All Lighthouse programs, are underpinned by an evidence-based therapeutic model of care, called the Lighthouse Model of Care (LMC). The LMC integrates trauma-informed practice, attachment theory, and psychoanalytic principles of emotional development to create a holistic therapeutic treatment environment.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The role provides therapeutic care to enrich the safety, attachment and physical and emotional development for trauma-impacted children and young people living in a residential setting.
The role is to provide high quality day-to-day therapeutic care, act as a positive role model and supervise the children and young people who live in the home. Although the role comes with its challenges, it is highly rewarding, and you will play an integral part in a community that brings positive change to a young person’s life.
This model works on a 24/7 roster, where there are night shifts seven days a week.
We are currently hiring for Day and Weekend shifts in the South East and Northern Suburbs, and Active Night shifts in our Secure Base programs located in the West.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- A minimum Cert IV in Child, Youth & Family Intervention or other higher level qualification in Social Work/Youth Work equivalent is essential. However, Lighthouse will employ applicants who commit to enrolling in a relevant qualification
- Applicants must also complete the mandatory Top Up Units as required by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing
- Must hold a current Working with Children Check (Employee version)
- Must complete a National Criminal Records check, and participate in a psycho-social screen by Lighthouse Foundation
- Must provide consent for a Disqualified Carers Check
- Must hold a valid Victorian driver’s licence
- Must hold either Australian Citizenship, Permanent Residence or valid Australian Work Visa

- You possess critical response skills to youth-based crisis situations, including practical and psychiatric emergencies
- You have an ability to identify and assess suicide/self-harm risks and understand the strategies to manage these risks
