See Differently is seeking a Therapy Assistant to support our growing Therapy and Independent Living Team on a casual basis over a 6-month period (to be reviewed after 6 months), to provide specialist services and therapy programs to support those who are blind or vision impaired.

About the Position

We are looking for students in the Allied Health field to join our Therapy and Independent Living Team, who are looking to work in a dynamic, innovative, and supportive team environment.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, energised, and eager individual who loves with working with people, can think quickly and problem solve, is adaptable and can bring forward new ideas and innovations for providing high quality and creative service for our clients.

We offer the opportunity to be a part of a large and evolving team making a real difference to people with vision loss in South Australia. As part of a team of supportive and friendly therapists, you will quickly build your skillset working directly with experienced clinicians, whilst supporting clients 1:1 in a variety of settings. You will receive regular mentoring and supervision from the therapy team, who work with a large scale of clients across the disability and aged care sector.

You will be provided with a thorough induction program, mentoring and clinical supervision, specific training to implement specific therapy, training, application of strategies, equipment prescription, developing goals focused group programs, whilst focusing on increasing independence in life skills and prescription of low vision aids/assistive technology.

The role will incorporate a mixed caseload of clients that receive funding through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and Home Care Packages, with additional work provided under the Commonwealth Home Support Program. The role is based across our different offices in Metropolitan Adelaide and is community based, with flexible working arrangements.

About You

You will have the ability to:

  • Provide 1:1 therapy and/or assistive technology/low vision equipment training programs with clients in the community developed and supported by a Therapist.
  • Assist Therapists to develop, plan, and run goals-based group programs.
  • Work in close partnership with the Therapy and Independent Living Team to support team as required.
  • Work with other disciplines within the Community Services team including Low Vision Optometrists, Orientation and Mobility Instructors, and Adaptive Technology Specialists.

A sound knowledge and understanding of vision impairment and empathy for people who are blind or vision impaired is highly desirable but not essential.

A satisfactory Department of Human Services screening clearance in Aged and Working with Children and NDIS check and a current Driver’s License, as well as the ability to travel independently are required. The role involves some travel and evening and weekend work when required.
