Top Up Coordinator

Job Purpose

In this role, you will be working with the Senior Top-Up Programme Coordinator to coordinate the Top-Up Programme (TUP) and ensure its effective and efficient delivery to circa. 2000 S5 and S6 secondary school pupils in 80+ schools in the West of Scotland.

Furthermore, you will work with FOCUS West, Local Authorities and other partners in order to achieve positive outcomes. The post holder will also work with the Head of WP to review, improve and develop the programme.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Coordinate, with the Senior Top-Up Coordinator, the day to day running of the Top-Up Programme in secondary schools in the west of Scotland. Liaise with other WP, External Relations (ER) and wider University academic and support service staff to plan, develop and implement the Programme in schools and on the University of Glasgow (UoG) campus. Oversee the day-to-day running and evaluation of activities.

2. Working with the Senior Top-Up Programme Coordinator, WP team, Human Resources and appropriate external contacts, oversee the annual recruitment/selection and training of circa 90 part-time Widening Participation Tutors.

3. Delegated line management responsibility for WP Tutors working on the TUP.

4. Input and maintain data relating to pupils participating in the TUP in a fit for purpose database. Extract and manipulate data to inform programme delivery and future planning.

5. Oversee the recruitment and training of circa 40 undergraduate mentors for delivery of TUP activities.

6. Working with the Senior Top-Up Coordinator and other WP colleagues, jointly develop TUP materials, messages, resources and activities. Develop TUP along new delivery models as required to facilitate the expansion of the Programme into further schools.

7. Jointly conduct the planning, coordination and implementation of on-campus sessions for secondary schools. Liaise with appropriate internal and external contacts to ensure the smooth running of these events including coordination of logistical and health and safety issues.

8. Jointly oversee cross marking of Top-Up Programme essays and collation of final pupil profiles and certificates to ensure quality assurance.

9. With the Senior Top-Up Programme Coordinator, monitor performance indicators, conduct regular evaluation of provision, compile reports for presentation to the Top-Up Programme Steering Group and FOCUS West, and ensure evaluation findings feed into medium and long-term action plans.

10. Responsible for own complex and changing workload, with the ability to work under minimal supervision.

11. Deputise for the Senior Top-Up Coordinator, when appropriate, in liaising and collaborating with staff from other Reach partners and other stakeholders.

12. Conduct other duties as required to support the Head of WP, WP team and wider ER staff.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1 Either: Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role. Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 (Advanced Higher / Scottish Vocational Qualification level 3, Higher National Certificate) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.

A2 Sound understanding of the learning skills required for study in Higher Education (HE).

A3 Knowledge of the Scottish secondary school system.

A4 Knowledge of HE admissions procedures and the UCAS application process.

Desirable

B1 Understanding of University policy and procedure relating to the recruitment and employment of staff.

B2 Understanding of government regulations relating to working with young adults.

B3 Understanding of University policy on Equality and Diversity procedures and policies.

B4 Will have undergone an Enhanced Disclosure Scotland check.

B5 Valid, clean driving license.

Experience

Essential:

E1 Experience of working in the HE and widening participation sectors.

E2 Experience of working with learners in schools.

E3 Experience of conducting group training sessions.

Desirable:

F1 Project Administration.

F2 Experience of administration in a related field.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 6, £32,332 – £36,024 per annum.

This post is full time (35 hours per week) and fixed term for up to 9 months or until the substantive post holder returns.
