Introduction
There is an increasing body of evidence demonstrating that engaging men as allies of women in achieving gender equality has a positive and lasting impact on gender-equitable outcomes. As part of its commitment to advancing women’s rights and inclusive development, Women for Women International (WfWI) has developed a Men’s Engagement Program (MEP) that recognizes men as clients, partners, and agents of change. The MEP is designed to complement women’s empowerment efforts by sensitively and strategically engaging men on the holistic benefits of gender equality. The program takes a transformative and context-driven approach to help men examine their roles, beliefs, and behaviors—promoting positive masculinity, shared responsibility, and community-wide dialogue. Through engaging influential male leaders, the program fosters change that is sustainable, rooted in community values, and capable of shifting social norms.
