SummaryAmerican Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service’s Independence National Historical Park, is seeking two members to contribute to landscape stewardship projects alongside National Park Service staff.
The Traditional Trades Advancement Program-Landscape Stewardship Corps is intended for enthusiastic individuals who possess an interest in gaining experience in the field of landscape preservation or horticulture. No background or previous experience in horticulture or historic preservation is necessary.

Location Details/Description: Located in the heart of Philadelphia, Independence National Historical Park celebrates historic landscapes and buildings where American democracy was born. Fifty-one acres of urban squares, gardens, and monumental landscapes reveal the history of the American Revolution and hold international icons of freedom. Position Overview: Working in conjunction with a dynamic, skilled, and motivated landscape team from Independence National Historical Park, two ACE members will help care for diverse plantings and turf, manage irrigation systems, and prune historic and specimen trees and shrubs. NPS staff will give ACE members practical hands-on training in horticulture and arboriculture skills and landscape equipment including mowers, tractors, and augers to develop the interns’ confidence and competency.
This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.
Schedule: Mon-Fri, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. Eastern Time Zone

Physical Demands, Work Environment and Working Conditions:
Environmental Conditions/Hazards: The ACE member(s) may encounter environmental conditions/hazards including cold and hot weather, biting insects such as mosquitos and ticks, and potentially dangerous wildlife. The member is expected to conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow staff/members or resources.
Vehicle and Equipment Use/Safety: If a vehicle is required for the accomplishment of the duties, one will be provided by the NPS or ACE. GOV vehicle will be utilized during scheduled workdays to conduct work. Any tools required for the accomplishment of the duties will be provided by the NPS. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), provided by the NPS to include safety toed boots brown in color, will be mandatory for any activity that requires it. Strict adherence to NPS and ACE equipment training, certification and safety protocols is required.
