The Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank Commission is seeking Seasonal Trail Crew members for the 2026 summer season from May-September ($18-21/hr depending on experience, 40-hour week). Start and end dates are flexible. The Land Bank manages over 4000 acres of conservation land across the island of Martha’s Vineyard. Seasonal Trail Crew members support the Land Bank’s year-round stewardship staff in maintaining existing trails and boardwalks, constructing new trail, and implementing habitat management goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Constructing and repairing hiking trails
  • Mowing and weed whacking fields, trails and trailheads
  • Installing trail and trailhead infrastructure including benches, kiosks, and signs
  • Experience with safely operating hand and power tools, power equipment, chainsaws, and trailering is preferred, but on-the-job training is available to candidates who are willing to learn
  • Other land stewardship tasks as needed

Requirements:

  • A willingness to work in the field for long hours and exposure to harsh conditions including heat, wind, rain, ticks, and poison ivy
  • Able to begin the workday in the early morning
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
  • Capable of working independently and cooperatively with other staff
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record and your own vehicle
  • Must be able to work holidays

Housing and compensation:

  • $18-$21/hr depending on experience, 40 hours per week
  • Seasonal shared housing is available in exchange for an additional 4 hours of work per If you require housing, please make note of it in your application.
