About Dirt Tek Trails: Established in 2019, Dirt Tek Trails is a leading expert in trail design, construction, and consultation, catering to diverse environments such as communities, ski areas, bike parks, and both public and private lands. Our team is dedicated to aligning with client goals and enhancing user experiences, ensuring that each project stands the test of time.

Position Description Trail crew members work outdoors daily with machine operators. Supporting the machine operators, the trail crew member will primarily clear trees and brush, rake, compact, and finish the trail behind the machine—no previous experience is required. Team members will be trained in proper tool use, project techniques, and trail-building skills. Training topics may include advanced chainsaw use, hand tool use, and trail finishing techniques. This position involves frequent travel, irregular hours, and a varying weekly schedule, with possible unpaid time off between projects.

Schedule: This is a full-time, seasonal commitment. Hours and schedules vary weekly, and there is an opportunity to work between 30 and 50 hours per week and travel extensively—2025 projects are currently in Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. 

Compensation 

• The pay rate is commensurate with experience, starting at $24.00 per hour / $36.00 per OT hour.
• $500 sign-on bonus (paid on arrival at season’s first job site)
• Paid travel between projects during season
• Shared Airbnb-style housing provided
• PTO accrued at the rate of .05 per hour worked (approximately 1 day/month at 40 hours/week)
• A season completion bonus at the end of the 2025 build season, or December 1.

Major Functions Responsibilities may include:

• Driving/riding an ATV safely on the project site
• Managing tools and equipment on the project site
• Running a chainsaw to cut trees
• Raking and packing dirt
• Running a plate compactor
• Lopping brush
• Supporting carpentry work for wood structures
• Rock work

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Other Requirements

• Must be physically fit and able to move objects up to 50 lbs
• Willingness to learn Dirt Tek-specific techniques and procedures in trail building.
• Flexibility, positive attitude, and professionalism at every turn.
• A genuine desire to travel, work on the road, and be outside all day.
• Cleanliness and respectfulness in community living and cohabitating with co-workers

Working Conditions & Physical Demands Trail building requires stamina and the ability to negotiate rough, uneven, and often steep terrain while carrying tools, equipment, and a heavy daypack. Trail work is frequently physically challenging and involves all elements. Regularly using heavy tools and machinery and lifting 50 pounds is required. All tools are provided, but proper gear is needed from each team member.
