The Trails Crew Coordinator provides leadership to a Trail Crew in daily projects and operations. The trails crew coordinator fosters the relationship between Holden Village and the U.S. Forest Service to organize and plan projects through the work in lieu program. The Holden Village Trails Crew will work about 36 hours a week on the trail, with 4 hours spent on work of the village. All volunteers get two days off. All short-term Holden Village Staff rooms in historic lodges.
Holden Village Trails Crew goes on day trips to maintain and repair hiking trails in Railroad Creek Valley. Love of outdoors is essential. Work involves lifting, sawing and hiking miles to work sites carrying heavy gear. Being in this position will offer volunteer oppurtunities with the forest service while in the position, and connections to assist in getting forest service jobs in the future.
Specific knowledge and skills include but are not limited to the following:
- Love of the outdoors is essential.
- Physically able to hike long-distances and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Up-to-date Wilderness First Response certification or First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to get certified required.
- Experience with cross-saws and chainsaws, preferred.
- Experience with trail maintenance required.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and project planning skills.
- Working familiarity with the tools and techniques associated with trail work and restoration.
- Must be self-motivated and have a positive attitude
- Ability to practice safety by wearing appropriate protective clothing, using safety equipment
- Physical strength and agility necessary to perform manual labor under all kinds of weather conditions.
