JOB DESCRIPTION
The main objective of this assignment is to design and deliver two rounds of comprehensive, practical, and interactive training sessions (3 days each) for targeted beneficiaries on modern irrigation technologies, focusing on:
Efficient water use in agriculture
Operation and maintenance of irrigation systems
Suitability of irrigation methods based on soil, crop, and topography.
Use of FAO software for calculating crop water requirements
. Scope of Work and Responsibilities
The Trainer will be responsible for the following:
- Preparation
Review existing training modules and materials provided by AGO.
Develop a detailed 3-day training agenda for each location (Shatt Al Arab and Al Zubair), including session titles, objectives, methods, and duration.
Customize training content to suit the local context and participants’ educational levels.
Prepare training handouts, practical tools, and visual aids.
- Delivery
Facilitate 6 full days of in-person training workshops (3 days in each district).
Cover theoretical and practical components, including:
Overview of irrigation systems in Iraq
Modern surface irrigation techniques
Sprinkler irrigation (types, benefits, design, limitations)
Drip irrigation (components, design, efficiency, challenges)
Practical sessions on system installation and maintenance
Use of FAO software to estimate evapotranspiration and crop water needs.
Scheduling irrigation and understanding soil moisture levels
- post-Training
Conduct pre- and post-training evaluations to measure knowledge improvement.
Submit a comprehensive final report including training attendance, key discussion points, participant feedback, evaluation analysis, and recommendations for future trainings.
. Deliverables
The Trainer is expected to deliver the following:
Training Agenda and Curriculum: Finalized training schedule and adapted content for both locations.
Training Materials: Handouts, PowerPoint presentations, visual charts, and tools.
Attendance Sheets: Verified lists of participants for each session.
Training Evaluation: Pre- and post-tests and analysis report.
Final Training Report: Summary of activities, learning outcomes, photos, and recommendations.
- Logistics and Support
AGO will cover transportation costs, training venue, stationery, and refreshments.
AGO will provide the trainer with the FAO software tool and supporting training materials.
Accommodation and per diem (if applicable) will be provided based on AGO’s internal policy.
- Reporting Line
The Trainer will report directly to AGO’s Program Manager and will coordinate with the assigned MEAL Officer and Agricultural Officer.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
- Required Qualifications and Experience
Advanced degree in Agricultural Engineering, Water Resources Management, or related field.
Proven experience (minimum 7 years) in modern irrigation systems, water efficiency, and capacity-building in agricultural settings.
Experience delivering similar trainings to farmers, agronomists, or public institutions.
Knowledge of Iraq’s agricultural context and challenges in Basra Governorate is a strong asset.
Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in Arabic (mandatory); knowledge of English is an asset.
