Background
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
UN Women has been implementing a joint project with UNFPA, Women and girls at the centre of gender-based violence prevention and response in Kachin State, Myanmar in collaboration with implementing partners. The project is funded by the French Government and aims to respond to the emergency needs of women and girls who experience gender-based violence (GBV), to provide livelihoods support, access to lifesaving services and to promote GBV accountability in humanitarian contexts.
Under the joint project with UNFPA, UN Women will provide capacity building training for local women’s groups and business women in Kachin State. First, Introduction training to Business Knowledge Enhancement for Community Women’s Groups to connect community women’s groups with the local women’s business networking group in Kachin State for sustainability. In this regard, to ensure long – term sustainability the project will support women’s groups to be ready to boost their economic status and initiate small – scale enterprises in future endeavors in terms of skills, knowledge, and market linkages; and second, GBV and Business in Leadership Training for those business women’s groups in Kachin state especially in Myintkyina to improve their skills in particular “ transformative feminist leadership skills” and extend their networking.
Against this backdrop, UN Women would like to recruit a National Consultant for two trainings for five days: Introduction training of Business Knowledge Enhancement for Community Women Groups in Kachin State and GBV & Business in Leadership Training for Business Women’s groups in Kachin State.
The consultant will be reporting to Program Specialist – Humanitarian Assistant collaborating with Project Manager for these two trainings: Introduction Training of Business Knowledge Enhancement for Community Women’s Groups in Kachin State and GBV & Business in Leadership Training for Businesswomen groups in Kachin State.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance of the UN Women Deputy Country Representative, and the direct supervision of Program Specialist – Humanitarian Assistant, the National Consultant will perform the following responsibilities / scopes of work.
- Prepare and develop training design and contents for Power Point Presentation
- Desk review of relevant materials and reference related to the French Contribution project of FCA/Pyo’ materials to identify training contents that would be useful for the participants.
- Develop training design and contents in consultation with the Program Specialist and UN Women team
- Develop pre and post training evaluations.
- Share the draft training contents and pre- post training evaluations
- Revise the training content and pre-post tests based on inputs and re – submit
- Finalize the training content and pre-post tests as advised
- Prepare and develop powerpoint presentations based on the two trainings content,
- Develop power point presentations in English and Myanmar version, using existing relevant materials and other reference
- Share the draft power point presentations for review and inputs of UN Women team
- Revise presentations based on inputs and re – submit
- Finalize presentations as advised
- Provide two trainings in Myintkyina as follows:
Introduction to Business Knowledge Enhancement for Women in Myintkyina ( 2.5 days)
Day 1: Time management and organizational skills: Train how to prioritize tasks, staying on schedule, and balancing work and personal responsibilities.
Day 2: Communication Skill : Help them improve their ability to communicate effectively with current customers in hometown, acquiring new customers from out of hometown, suppliers, business contacts
Day 3: Basic sales skills, budgeting, making profit and separating budget from personal expenses.
GBV and Business Leadership Training in Myintkyina Township (2.5 days)
Day 1 : GBV training
Day 2: Transformative Feminist Leadership skills training
Day 3: Action plan and Networking
- Submit the final copies of the training report with following annexes:
- Training Report including Pre – Post evaluation

Required Skills and Experience
Education and Certification:
- Master’s degree in social sciences, gender or related discipline is preferred;
- Bachelor’s degree in any social sciences course, related discipline, plus five years of work experience may be accepted in lieu of a Master’s degree.;
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience on gender related work; curriculum and training design, development, organizing and facilitation; report writing and documentation of activities;
- Has at least 5 years work experience in humanitarian response and Women Business Net working
- Has at least 5 years work experience in facilitating, coordinating trainings and delivering topics as resource person on any gender related areas of work
- Excellent command of training related softwares and virtual training platforms
- Experience of working with and in collaboration with UN Agencies, local and international organizations is an asset.
- Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders and partners, including civil society and grassroots organization.
- Experience working in Myanmar and have a good understanding of the socio-economic and political situation of the country is strongly desirable.
Languages:
- Fluency in English and Myanmar language is required.
