The Opportunity

The Training Development Specialist is responsible for the management, design, development and implementation of university wide EHS training programs for the Ithaca campus. This position provides guidance and information to EHS subject matter experts in the development of training content into both in-person and online health and safety training. The Training Development Specialist is responsible for managing online training courses and materials for EHS and facilitating these activities in the broader FCS organization. The incumbent will be responsible for the technical aspects of configuring courses to run appropriately in our Learning Management System (LMS) and configuration of our askEHS inquiry portal and ensuring the smooth operation of these programs. The Training Development Specialist shall represent EHS and demonstrate excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities with very general supervision:

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and provide guidance on the design and develop online training courses, including creating course content, activities, assessments, and multimedia elements.
  • Manage the learning management system (LMS) and ensure it is configured to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Develop and implement strategies for promoting and increasing engagement with online training courses.
  • Analyze learning outcomes and make recommendations for improving the effectiveness of training programs.
  • Develop and maintain training materials, such as job aids, training manuals, and user guides.
  • Provide information and guidance on appropriate course set-up and features to subject matter experts.
  • Provide technical support for users of the LMS and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
  • Maintain records of training completion and certification for compliance purposes.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies in online learning and make recommendations for improving the organization’s training programs.
  • Implement improvements to the Team Dynamix ask EHS portal to ensure queries are being addressed by subject matter experts and are closed out in a timely fashion.

What We Need

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, or related field, and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in instructional design and development, preferably in an online learning environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in training development and proficiency with Articulate Rise/Storyline, Adobe Captivate, or similar software.
  • Experience with graphic design and multimedia development.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in the configuration and administration of learning management systems (LMS) such as SABA or Workday Learning.
  • Must possess strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Strong and effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in adult education, instructional design, educational technology, or a related field.
  • Certification in instructional design (CID), Certified Professional in Training Management (CPTM) or Certified Instructional Trainer (CIT) through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, or a related field. Continuing education courses such as LMS vendor training, conferences, or workshops.
  • Experience with gamification and/or microlearning strategies.
  • Knowledge of SCORM and other eLearning standards.
  • Experience with video production and editing.
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Experience with learning analytics and data analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing technologies and trends in online learning.
