Position Overview

The Center for Orientation and Transition Programs (OTP) is responsible for providing the orientation, onboarding, and programs to aid in student transition at the University of Kansas. OTP is a unit within Academic Success, a division of Academic Affairs.

The Transfer Orientation Coordinator will support the planning, execution, and assessment of the Transfer student experience for new domestic students at the University of Kansas. The Transfer Orientation Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Orientation & Transition Programs team to create robust, intentional, and inclusive Transfer Onboarding and transition programs. The ideal candidate will possess experience in program planning, organization, and execution, the ability to work collaboratively, and the excitement to curate Orientation experiences for new students and their guests.

Job Description

Transfer Orientation Support (60%)

  • Develop and execute our Transfer Onboarding sessions for the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Be a day-of contact for Onboarding presenters and campus partners across the University including managing Orientation distribution lists.
  • Work with the Academic Success Navigator team to ensure a smooth transition and information sharing.
  • Work with the Online Orientation Coordinator to create and maintain online assets.
  • Collaborate with the Parent & Family Engagement Coordinator to develop Parent & Guest support for new Transfer students.
  • Collaborate with the Transition Programs Coordinator to create Transfer student specific programming during Hawk Week and throughout their first year at KU.
  • Conduct research and assessment to better understand KU’s transfer student population, emerging trends, and current issues.

Other Orientation Support (30%)

  • Provide programmatic support for Freshman Orientation.
  • Participate in the selection and training of Orientation Assistants
  • Provide campus-wide training sessions for campus partners related to OTP events and programs
  • Participate in outreach activities for the Center for Orientation and Transition Programs, including prospective student recruitment events
  • Moderate and present during Freshman Orientation sessions as needed.

Transition Programs Support (10%)

  • Assist in the execution of Hawk Week, the University of Kansas’ Official Welcome Week program.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of additional transition programs hosted by the Center for Orientation and Transition Programs, including but not limited to Winter Welcome Week, Late Night Breakfast, and more.

Position Requirements

This position may be a hybrid of on-site work and telework as deemed by supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and one year relevant experience OR a Master’s degree.
  • Experience planning and executing programs or events.
  • Prior experience working with Transfer student populations.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, as demonstrated by application materials and interview.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with orientation and transition programs.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Experience working collaboratively with diverse populations.
  • Prior work experience that required multi-tasking and managing projects on a tight deadline.
