Context

The Nelson Mandela, A Call to Action for Business SDG booklet, features a collection of quotes from Nelson Mandela and serves as a reminder of the impact that we can have on the world. The booklet was compiled by the United Nations in South Africa in cooperation with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) and the Global Compact Network South Africa. This booklet is dedicated to the legacy of the icon who inspired generations to fight for a more just, equal, and sustainable world. To make the booklet more accessible to South African audiences, translation into Afrikaans is required. This will ensure that the messages of hope, reconciliation, and sustainable development reach a wider readership and foster greater community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

We are looking for 10 Online Volunteers who have experience in translation skills. The task will include the following responsibilities:

• Translate Nelson Mandela, A Call to Action for Business SDG booklet into the 5 official UN languages.
• Ensure accuracy, clarity, and preservation of meaning during translation.
• Apply appropriate tone and style suitable for the intended audience.
• Proofread and review translations to ensure quality.
• Respect confidentiality of all documents shared.

The average estimated workload is expected to include translating 80 pages over the course of assignment duration.

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong command of each language
• Prior translation experience, preferably in educational, advocacy, or development contexts.
• Ability to maintain accuracy and clarity while preserving the inspirational tone of the text.
• Cultural awareness and sensitivity in translation.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
