Mission and objectives

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)’s Regional Service Centre for Africa (RSCA) was inaugurated in May 2013, it is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and serves 45 Country Offices in sub-Saharan Africa. The UNDP RSCA develops high quality knowledge and policy, and is the organisation’s main interface with regional and continental bodies such as the African Union and the Regional Economic Communities. Our experts support UNDP Country Offices and manage a host of regional programmes and projects in different countries across the continent. The Center also implements a continent-wide Regional Programme supporting Africa’s transformation agenda.

Context

The PVE work at the regional level is guided by the UN Secretary General’s Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism (206), to which UNDP designs and implements risk-informed, conflict sensitive and analysis-based development solution in Africa and the Arab States. The quarterly newsletter is produced to inform a larger audience on activities conducted by UNDP on PVE in Africa and the Middle East. The task is strongly connected to supporting UNDP’s thought leadership in the area of PVE and showcasing the stories from UNDP’s Country Offices. Overall, the PVE work contributes to the realization of the SDGs 5 and 16, by enabling meaningful participation of young women in local peace.
