Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocateand promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.
DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine andwill continue significant scale-up in 2023 to implement emergency response in the Protection,Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mineaction) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations(CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to theevolving context. DRC is currently looking for a Translatorfor its activities in Chernihiv. This position willreport to the DRC Area Manager.

Overall purpose of the role:

DRC in Chernihiv is looking for a translator to establish communication between the national and international employees of the DRC team, the affected population, and IDPs so that DRC can respond to urgent needs in a timely and qualitative manner. The translator must provide written and oral translation, as well as basic administrative support (drafting meeting minutes, assisting in preparing letters, etc).

Responsibilities:

• Provision of interpretation between national and international DRC staff, as well as with government officials as needed.
• Provide accurate interpretation during individual or group counseling sessions, training, and meetings, always applying the principles of accuracy, confidentiality, and impartiality.
• Conduct English/Ukrainian language consultations for national and international employees as needed.
• Act in the interests of the beneficiary. Communicate with beneficiaries in a sensitive manner, ensuring that their rights are respected.
• Perform day-to-day administrative tasks in accordance with the work in the area of responsibility.
• Provide written translation of Ukrainian and/or Russian documents into English and vice versa.
• Participate in training and interpret training presentations, materials/tools, communications, etc.
• Be prepared to be part of a mobile team or be deployed to field work as needed.
• Respond to occasional and urgent requests for interpretation as agreed with the line manager.
• Other duties that may be assigned by the line manager related to achieving the DRC’s objectives and/or supporting the implementation of the DRC’s activities.
• Ensure compliance with the DRC Code of Conduct during the implementation of activities.

About you:

• We expect you to have at least 1 year of work experience in a similar position or in international organizations.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Fluency in the Ukrainian and Russian languages and advanced English – oral and written.
• Stress resistance and a positive attitude towards tasks.
• Commitment to continuous development.
• High professional ethics and understanding of privacy policy.

Education:

• Higher education in a relevant specialty or an equivalent professional qualification is preferred

Languages:

• Proficiency in written and spoken Ukrainian and Russian languages.
• English at an advanced level or higher (speaking/reading/writing).

Additional information:

• Contract length: 12 months with the possibility of renewal depending on the effectiveness and funding of the program. Preliminary 3-month trial
