About KidsXpress
KidsXpress is a children’s mental health organisation delivering trauma informed, culturally responsive Expressive Therapy and Education Services to children under the age of 12yrs, their caregivers, school communities and the wider community. Our services are delivered through Community Partnership Programs, School Partnership Programs and Training & Education Services.
Using the therapeutic benefits of art, music, drama and play, our Expressive Therapists support children towards restored socio-emotional health and wellbeing. Our Trauma-Informed Education Consultants work with whole school communities to build capacity of the caregivers within the school community towards recognising and responding to children living with and impacted by trauma. Our Trauma Consultants and Practice Coaches deliver high calibre training and education engagements that increase clients’ capacity and confidence to apply trauma informed principles to the wider community.
About our School Partnership Program
Our School Partnership Program combines our Expressive Therapy and Trauma-Informed Education Services to provide a holistic mental health support program that fosters positive and nurturing school environments where students and staff thrive. Based on-site, at the school, in a multi-year commitment, this program offers a whole school approach comprised of support for students, teachers and the school community.
About the Role
As a KidsXpress Trauma Informed Education Consultant (TIEC) you will lead the delivery of trauma informed education and support to teachers, parents and caregivers working within schools and classrooms with teachers and students. In consultation with the school executive/leadership team, you will lead the delivery of trauma informed education and support to school staff and caregivers (parents/carers) within an appointed school.
As a TIEC you will:
- Provide formal professional development training (all staff);
- Provide formal / informal coaching engagements;
- Participate in school leadership/learning support team meetings;
- Provide consultation to school staff and caregivers to support social emotional support of students within the school / home environment;
- Plan and/or facilitate formal and informal wellbeing focused capacity building opportunities for parents and carers;
- Participate in classroom observations and in situ teacher coaching which promote safety, regulation and social emotional competencies.
About You
You are committed to evidence-informed mental health interventions with children, identifying as a highly motivated professional with exceptional leadership and communication skills. You’re able to thoughtfully assess need and respond with a considered and relevant plan underpinned by your expert working knowledge of mental health, childhood development and trauma informed principles. You’re comfortable coaching and supporting key stakeholders in their learning and application of trauma informed practices.
Requirements for candidates interested in this role are:
- Graduate / Postgraduate / Masters qualifications in social work, psychology, education or a creative arts therapy
- Minimum 8 years’ experience working in any of the following settings – social work, psychology, education
- Advanced working knowledge of trauma informed principles and practices for supporting children, families and communities
- Prior experience working with children living with and impacted by trauma, an understanding of childhood development and key therapeutic frameworks for effective intervention and recovery
- Prior experience working in schools or allied health services
- Prior experience delivering workshops and in-house presentations
- Professional experience working in mental health
- Current or eligible registration with a national professional body (AASW, AHPRA, APTA, ANZACATA, AMTA, DTAA, ATPA)
- WWCC number as evidence of Working with Children Check
- National Police History Check
