Position Details Wesleyan University has approximately 3000 undergraduate and 200 graduate students. The CAPS office operates Monday-Friday and provides 24/7 phone support through an on-call rotation. This position is a 37.5 hour/week, 43 week/year position and requires working at least one evening until 7:00 pm. This position will also participate in the on-call rotation approximately 3 weeks per semester.
Outreach is included in the services provided and is essential to the community health model to which CAPS adheres. CAPS provides education, consultation, and training to students, faculty, administrators, and staff.
Reporting to the assistant director of CAPS, the trauma specialist psychotherapist will provide individual and group psychotherapy for students who have been impacted by sexual violence, intimate partner violence, harassment, stalking, and other forms of traumatic experiences including childhood abuse and racial trauma.
Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as direct referral resource for students reporting sexual violence, intimate partner violence, stalking, and harassment to university responsible resources.

  • Provide individual and group psychotherapy for students who have been impacted by sexual violence, intimate partner violence, stalking, harassment, and other forms of trauma, using a trauma-informed approach to clinical care and evidence-based clinical interventions such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).

  • Collaborate with the Associate Director/Sexual Violence Prevention in the health education (WesWell) office to offer outreach, education, and groups supporting students who have been impacted by trauma.

  • Collaborate with the Title IX Officer to provide a comprehensive network of support for students who have been impacted by sexual violence, intimate partner violence, harassment, and stalking.

  • Work closely with the WesWell Director to deliver bystander intervention programming for first year students during orientation week.

  • Work closely with partners within CAPS and WesWell to develop and offer educational programs for the university community in the area of trauma-informed practices.

  • Participate in the on-call rotation.

  • Work one evening per week until 7 PM.

  • Provide secondary supervision to predoctoral trainees.

  • Maintain clinical case files in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional standards.

  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.

This position works 37.5 hours/week for 43 weeks.
This is an on-campus position.

Minimum Qualifications Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in CT, or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in CT, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in CT or licensed clinical or counseling psychologist (LP) in CT or eligible for immediate licensure in CT.
Masters Degree in Psychology or Social Work or a related field with a minimum of two years of clinical professional experience working with clients who present with an array of psychiatric issues or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Formal training in trauma treatment, such as trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), cognitive processing therapy (CPT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), or accelerated resolution therapy (ART).
Demonstrated experience doing clinical work with clients who have experienced trauma.
Demonstrated commitment to working within a diverse environment and interacting collegially with individuals of different backgrounds.
Experience working with high-risk therapy clients.
Experience managing a high case load and work in fast paced clinical environment.
Experience with documentation of case files in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional standards.
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive clinical support.
Experience working with clients from historically marginalized communities.
Effective communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated clinical experience with a late adolescent/emerging adult population.
Knowledge of Title IX.
