The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund was established in 1949 by the United Nations General Assembly to provide retirement, death, disability, and related benefits for staff of the United Nations and other member organizations of the Fund. The Pension Fund pays benefits in 17 currencies to more than 80,000 beneficiaries who reside in 190 countries, and services more than 140,000 participants who work in the 25 member organizations of the Pension Fund. The Fund has offices in New York (United States) and Geneva (Switzerland) and two liaison offices in Nairobi (Kenya) and Bangkok (Thailand), respectively.

This position is located in the Cashiers Unit of the Financial Services within the Pension Administration of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund.
The Cashiers Unit is responsible for directing and controlling the Fund’s treasury activities, managing the cash flow operations of the Secretariat. The Unit also recommends and coordinates the implementation of periodic and non-recurrent payment systems for worldwide application, including the selection of banks, value dates, manual and electronic payment systems. In addition, the Unit is responsible for establishing methods to interface the electronic payment systems into existing Pension Fund infrastructure.
The incumbent will report to the Chief and Deputy Chief of the Cashiers Unit.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Treasury Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
• Support the Cashier and Deputy Cashier in monitoring contribution from member organizations.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly/weekly cash forecasts.
• Perform monthly bank charges analysis for all operation bank accounts.
• Investigate beneficiaries’ claims of non-receipt of payments, delays in payments and bank charges.
• Prepare stop payment requests for cheque and wire payments for Cashier’s approval.
• Void payments and record cancellations in the Fund’s operating system.
• Drafts or prepares correspondence to respond to enquiries with respect to relevant financial matters.
• Download daily balance and transaction information for all operational bank accounts and prepare summary cash position.
• Assist with the processing and mailing of monthly payroll cheques to various pouch destinations.
• Keep track of cheque stock and assist with the reorder.
• Schedule maintenance service calls for cheque printer, and packaging machines.
• Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
• Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
• Performs other duties as may be required.

Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to three (3) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
Experience in reading a SWIFT message and understanding banking terminology is required.
Experience in payment instructions formatting is desirable.
One year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
