  • $66,419.57 per annum (pro rata for part time) plus 12% superannuation

Position overview

As our Treatment Plant Trainee, you’ll play a part in driving positive change for the communities we serve. This is a great opportunity to pair your passion in caring for Country and problem solving with hands on learning and development. In this role, you will have the opportunity to learn from senior members of the Treatment Plant team and be mentored by one of our leaders.

This role reports to Treatment Plant Operations Manager, within the Operations division. In this role, you will have the opportunity to rotate across our 9 Treatment Plants, spanning across Melbourne’s outer Eastern suburbs to outer Northern suburbs. You will be provided a company vehicle for work use and will have the opportunity to learn a variety of different water treatment technologies. This is a hands-on role, working between head office, site offices, the onsite laboratory and outdoors.

You will be supported to complete a Certificate III in Water Industry Operations. With the view that once you have completed your Traineeship you will be in a great position to apply for a Treatment Plant Operator role when the opportunity arises.

Your key responsibilities

Initially you will spend time learning about Yarra Valley Water, your team and the systems we use. You will have the opportunity to work alongside members of your team, learning the day-to-day tasks at each Treatment Plant such as:

  • Taking water samples, testing them in our onsite laboratory, entering data into spreadsheets
  • Learning how to analyse the data and make changes to ensure the Treatment Plant is operating safely and efficiently and
  • Cleaning outdoors, washdowns and emptying large bins.

As you build up your knowledge and experience, you will take on more complex tasks, and in time, will be able to work through tasks independently. You will be supported and coached along the way and once settled in, will have the opportunity to complete a Certificate III in Water Industry Operations to support your learning.
There is a physical element to this role which will include walking, standing, squatting, kneeling and some manual handling.
