THE ROLE

The Tree Equity Officer will lead on our vision that by 2030 we would like to see the added
protection of existing trees and en route to 1 million more trees established in Scotland’s
urban areas that currently have a low Tree Equity Score (TES). They will be responsible for
establishing and developing partnerships with others to deliver exemplar projects across
Scotland that demonstrate and communicate benefits of improving TES. The Tree Equity Officer
will Advocate to embed use of TES in Local Area Plans/LA strategy of city authorities and
encourage city authorities to raise funding for improving TES in their cities. 

As part of the Scotland Team, they will be responsible for working together collaboratively
with other colleagues across the Trust to develop and oversee the delivery of a Tree Equity
strategy. They will work with policy and advocacy colleagues to influence local and national
government and others to embed Tree Equity as a tool to inform and direct urban forestry and
green space delivery and preferably embed within policy.

This is a Hybrid working role, where you’ll work part of your time at home and part of the time
from one of our Regional Offices based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Our Hybrid Working Policy is
flexible, and the frequency of time spent in your contracted office will vary across teams and
job roles.

THE CANDIDATE

You will have excellent knowledge, experience and passion for urban forestry and/or urban green
infrastructure. You will also have experience and understanding of the operation of local
government and planning. You’ll be able to inspire and influence others to promote and embed
Tree Equity delivery. 

A key part of this roles requires programme and project management skills and experience in
developing strategies and plans to deliver outcomes, particularly in urban greenspace.

You will have the ability to collaborate with other teams and colleagues to develop and lead
the delivery of a Tree Equity strategy to ensure woods and trees are valued and recognised in
key policies and decisions at a national level. You’ll have great research and analytical
skills being able to communicate and tailor complex information to different audiences,
building positive relationships internally and externally using your skills to influence
stakeholders.
